For Vendors

An Opportunity for Innovations

Most users aren't aware of the huge business opportunities and potential for innovation that IPv6 offers, which is why there is a pressing need to link businesses to relevant IPv6 applications.

Impact of IPv6 on Vendors

For Infocomm vendors, the main driver for IPv6 readiness is to prepare themselves to meet future demand and to capitalise on new business opportunities. As the remaining IPv4 pool becomes depleted, there will be a growing demand for IPv6-only systems and solutions, especially in developing markets. The growth of popular peer-to-peer services such as Voice over IP that work best with end-to-end IP connectivity and the emergence of new technology paradigms such as smart metering and intelligent buildings will also drive the demand for products that are IPv6-ready as IPv4 addresses run out.

Vendors' Role in the IPv6 Ecosystem

The adoption of IPv6 across the Infocomm ecosystem is a function of a complex set of interactions and dependencies between the different stakeholders such as hardware and software vendors, service providers, Internet service providers and network providers. Hardware and software vendors, for example, are key enablers of IPv6 adoption because without suitable products from these stakeholders, the rest of the ecosystem will be unable to progress.

Resources for Infocomm Vendors

Programme

IDA will continue to work with the Infocomm ecosystem on new programmes and activities to catalyse the adoption of IPv6 in Singapore. It is also monitoring market developments to assess if further measures are needed to aid the transition. Details of these programmes will be announced as and when they are made available.
