Manpower Development

Infocomm is key in transforming economic sectors and contributing to Singapore's GDP. Hence, it is critical to ensure that there is a sufficient pool of skilled talent that is well-placed for a vibrant and globally competitive industry.

The Infocomm Manpower Development Masterplan 2.0 (MDEV 2.0) was launched in 2011 to attract and develop infocomm talent with sophisticated infocomm skills and agility to respond to industry shifts. To achieve these goals, IDA has adopted the five strategic thrusts:

  • Develop World-Class Infocomm Education
Develop a vibrant and sustainable infocomm education landscape at both pre-tertiary and tertiary levels through forward-looking curriculum to deepen students' understanding and application knowledge of infocomm as well as leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial skills and build a healthy pipeline of students and good and passionate teachers.

  • Groom Infocomm Talent and Student Leaders
Attract bright students to pursue infocomm studies at pre-tertiary and tertiary levels and ensure that infocomm students at tertiary institutes are able to meet the needs of the industry though closer industry collaborations (e.g., more internships and project work) and stronger focus on leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial skills.

  • Generate Passion for Infocomm and Improve Perception of Infocomm Careers
Generate a greater passion for infocomm and improve perception of infocomm careers amongst students, especially those not interested in infocomm as well as key influencers (e.g., parents, teachers and career counsellors) so as to expand inflow of talent and constrict outflow of talent.

  • Build Professional Capability and Infocomm Companies' Talent Management Best Practices
Develop a sufficient pool of infocomm professionals trained in new and emerging infocomm areas as well as leadership, innovation and entrepreneurial skills and ensure that infocomm organisations (especially SMEs) are more effective in attracting, nurturing and retaining infocomm professionals.

  • Build Strategic Infocomm Capabilities for Sectoral Transformation
Develop a pool of 'hybrid' professionals equipped with infocomm, domain, leadership and innovation knowledge for key economic sectors.
