To create a pro-consumer and pro-business infocomm environment, IDA formulates infocomm-related policies, standards, codes of practice and advisory guidelines aimed at leveling the playing field for infocomm service providers and empowering consumers and businesses with more choices.

IDA plays an active role in developing Singapore’s pool of globally-competitive infocomm talent and an infocomm-savvy workforce. We are also focused on driving consumer education initiatives, ensuring digital inclusion and supporting the effective use of infocomm in community outreach efforts.

Overview

IDA drives the growth, competitiveness and innovation of Singapore’s infocomm industry by nurturing local infocomm enterprises and supporting them in their internationalisation efforts. We also seek to inject greater vibrancy into the infocomm ecosystem by attracting world-class global infocomm MNCs and startups to hub in Singapore.

Community Development

IDA is committed to work with community groups and industry to bring the benefits of infocomm to all, creating an all-inclusive digital society where infocomm is used as a key enabler to empower and benefit the elderly, students and people with permanent disabilities from low income households.

We have a range of programmes aimed at providing infocomm access and tools to:

enable the elderly to lead more independent, fulfilling lives through infocomm,
equip students and people with permanent disabilities from low income households with computer and broadband to support their learning journey,
enhance the employability of people with disabilities and help them integrate with the mainstream society; and
ensure that no one gets left behind on Singapore’s digital journey.

People Sector Transformation

IDA partners strategic people sector organisations which have a large community reach to achieve a multiplier effect for our People Sector Programme. Our aim is to increase awareness and promote adoption of infocomm and to increase the sophistication and savviness of the adult population with respect to their infocomm usage.

Social Service Sector ICT Master Plan

The Social Service Sector faces challenges in greater demand for skilled manpower, the need for more prevalent data in service planning, as well as demand from clients on better and more effective service delivery. In addressing these challenges, the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is acknowledged as a key enabler to achieve productivity gains and service delivery improvements.

As part of the effort to drive productivity and service improvements, the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), together with Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) have embarked on a five-year (FY2012 to FY2016) Social Service Sector ICT Master Plan, or SS2016 in short, to enable the government and social service providers to deliver coordinated and integrated social services through the adoption of ICT.

NEU PC Plus Programme

The NEU PC Plus Programme offers students and persons with disabilities from low income households the opportunity to own a brand new computer at an affordable price.

Silver Infocomm Initiative

The Silver Infocomm Initiative (SII) aims to bridge the digital divide for senior citizens by addressing their differences in education background, language and infocomm competencies. SII includes programmes that provide access to IT training and computer resources, and engage senior citizens in various Silver Infocomm events such as Silver Infocomm Day.

Infocomm Accessibility Centre

Infocomm can help broaden employment opportunities for people with disabilities and connect them with the mainstream community. Towards this end, IDA works with volunteer welfare organisations to help the disabled overcome obstacles in infocomm adoption through the use of assistive technology tools. Infocomm-related vocational training is also conducted to enhance their employability.
