To create a pro-consumer and pro-business infocomm environment, IDA formulates infocomm-related policies, standards, codes of practice and advisory guidelines aimed at leveling the playing field for infocomm service providers and empowering consumers and businesses with more choices.

IDA plays an active role in developing Singapore’s pool of globally-competitive infocomm talent and an infocomm-savvy workforce. We are also focused on driving consumer education initiatives, ensuring digital inclusion and supporting the effective use of infocomm in community outreach efforts.

Overview

IDA drives the growth, competitiveness and innovation of Singapore’s infocomm industry by nurturing local infocomm enterprises and supporting them in their internationalisation efforts. We also seek to inject greater vibrancy into the infocomm ecosystem by attracting world-class global infocomm MNCs and startups to hub in Singapore.

Technology

To ensure Singapore's continued leadership in infocomm, IDA identifies strategic infocomm technologies and works with the relevant players in industry and government in areas such as policy, regulation, manpower development, technology pilots, and trend mapping. IDA engages industry, academia, end-users and other stakeholders in the infocomm ecosystem to identify significant trends in the infocomm landscape and develop a Infocomm Technology Roadmap that charts the national infocomm blueprint for the future.

Under the fifth and latest roadmap, IDA expects to see new developments arising from the confluence of innovations that will bring about greater convenience for end-users, and the emergence of a new eco-system of hardware, software, and systems-level players that exploit sentient spaces.

There will also be tremendous opportunities for the infocomm industry, and multi-disciplinary research around infocomm will become the key focus of R&D. IDA will continue to develop industry-relevant programmes that bridge R&D labs and industry, to help Singapore keep abreast of future directions and trends, identify business opportunities and strengthen its competitive advantage.

IPv6 is the next-generation Internet protocol that replaces IPv4, and its adoption is essential if Singapore is to participate in the next era of Internet services and create a platform to grow innovations and business opportunities. The IPv6 Transition Programme is a national effort to address the issue of IPv4 exhaustion and to facilitate the smooth transition of the Singapore infocomm ecosystem to IPv6.

Geospatial (location aware) technology enables businesses and consumers to leverage on map and location data to improve productivity and decision making. i-Singapore is the key programme that drives the awareness and adoption of geospatial technology and applications in the different industry segments. Green ICT

IDA’s Green Data Centre initiative aims to boost the competitiveness of the data centre industry by raising their overall energy efficiency and reducing their operating costs. It aims to establish Singapore-specific standards, metrics and best practices for data centre energy efficiency; raise efficiency through ratings, recognition and incentives; and foster Innovation in Green Data Centre-related products, solutions and services.

Technology Roadmap

The Infocomm Technology Roadmap charts the vision and trends of the technology landscape in Singapore to keep businesses and the infocomm industry informed of the latest infocomm developments and help them identify emerging infocomm technologies that will give Singapore a competitive edge in exploiting business and economic opportunities.
