International Relations for Telecom
IDA plays an important role in cultivating, advancing and protecting Singapore's interests in matters related to ICT and post. It does this through participation in bilateral, regional and global platforms. Singapore is involved in many global negotiations and meetings organised by ASEAN, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, International Telecommunication Union, and other telecom and postal organisations to:
-
facilitate and enhance ICT collaborations among member states
-
discuss and draft provisions of international ICT/postal regulations instruments
Every year, IDA arranges meetings with foreign dignitaries who are interested in learning more about Singapore's ICT journey. Since 2007, IDA has also been conducting the yearly Telecom Regulatory Course, a five-day executive programme on ICT development for countries that are keen to use ICT to further their social and economic growth.
The programme, targeted at senior ICT policy-makers and telecoms regulators, covers topics related to policy and regulation principles, as well as Singapore's experience in the formulation of frameworks for competition management, consumer protection and licensing. Since its inception, the course has attracted participants from over 30 countries.
