So What is NFC?

NFC, short for Near Field Communication, is a close-range wireless technology that allows for quick data exchange between devices.

Its short-range signal also means you get to decide when you want to exchange data – that means no random data dump, i.e. spam, when you walk past an advertising billboard or go near an advertiser's shop. It's what you want, only when you want it.

Use it like a contactless smart card
In card emulation mode, use it to make payment like you would with your EZ-Link or NETS FlashPay card. Just tap it on the reader, let the machine read your card details, and your transaction is complete. It probably takes longer to fix your customised drink than it does for the transaction to clear!

Use it to read and write NFC tags
In reader/writer mode, use it to tap an NFC tag and read the information stored on it. For example, if you tap the NFC tag on a movie poster, you could download information such as the movie trailer, an e-coupon for discounted tickets, or even read the movie review!

Use it to exchange data
In peer-to-peer mode, use it to exchange data with another NFC-enabled smartphone. For example, exchanging details with someone you met at a networking event would be just a matter of tapping the two phones together. No more running out of name cards, ever!
