Whether learning in the classroom, working offsite or indulging in a spot of retail therapy – visitors to this year’s imbX will be able to see how infocomm is transforming these experiences and redefining the way Singaporeans learn, work, live and play.
imbX is Asia’s largest infocomm and media platform organised by Singapore Exhibition Services and co-hosted by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and the Media Development Authority. The 2011 event attracted industry exhibitors from 59 countries/regions, as well as about 53,000 trade delegates and over 350 local and foreign media.
This year’s event, which will take place from 18-22 June at Marina Bay Sands and Suntec Singapore, has attracted over 1,300 international exhibitors from more than 51 countries/regions. Of these, more than 200 are new exhibitors.
IDA will have a strong presence at imbX, showcasing some of the latest projects and initiatives under the
Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015)
masterplan to guide Singapore in its transition into an intelligent nation and a global city through infocomm.
An interesting area is the use of infocomm in education. At the IDA booth, a section on the
EdVantage Programme
will illustrate how ICT is being integrated more extensively into curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. Exhibits include a 3D interactive role-playing tool that reinforces lesson objectives through a variety of group tasks and a series of immersive, interactive games that engage students by getting them to interact with animated scenarios depicting scientific concepts and processes.
Within the domain of work, IDA will showcase how geospatial technologies can be harnessed in conjunction with other technologies such as social media and wireless connectivity to bring about a quantum improvement in productivity and work efficiency.
The projects, under the
i-Singapore
initiative, touch on a wide range of job roles from real estate to construction and retail.
Still on the topic of work, IDA will be presenting innovative concepts such as the smart home office and smart work centre to illustrate new possibilities for the Workplace of the Future. This is an initiative under the Government Infrastructure and Services Group to harness technologies in the civil service so that public officers can look forward to a more flexible workplace and better work-life balance.
There will also be interesting exhibits on the application of
Wireless@SG
- a wireless broadband programme that offers consumers free Wi-Fi access with speeds of up to 1 Mbps, and enables enterprises to enhance their operations with applications such as wireless security and surveillance, intelligent sensor management for smart buildings, location based services-enabled augmented reality and seamless authentication.
Other initiatives that will be showcased at the IDA booth include cloud computing, innovations by Singapore startups and small and medium enterprises, Singapore’s digital ICT ecosystem, and various people sector applications.
Besides its presence at the exhibition, IDA is also organising
SmartMobility@SG
at imbX. The full-day seminar on 21 June 2012 is aimed at promoting the mobile industry and providing a platform for global mobile players to share ideas about the future of the mobile industry. It also showcases the various opportunities for partnership and collaboration in Singapore.
A closed-door
Ministerial Forum on ICT
will also be held on 18 June 2012. Recognising the key role that governments play in setting policy direction and strategies for the ICT sector, Singapore has been organising the Ministerial Forum on ICT since 2005 for ICT Ministers to discuss and exchange views on pertinent ICT issues of mutual concern in a closed door setting. This year, Singapore will be partnering the World Economic Forum (WEF) for the Ministerial Forum. The theme is "ICT for Greater Growth", where Ministerial participants will examine the role of ICT as a facilitator and driver of socio-economic growth and development, while delving into ways to manage risks posed by ICT.
