Mr Vince Chua believes that a mobile presence will enable him to promote his company’s designer urns to a wider audience.

One Gallery is adding a mobile dimension to a timeless business. The company, which provides classical, modern and contemporary designer urns for the departed, has launched a mobile web site to complement its online presence as it seeks to break away from the conventional practice of offering urns through funeral directors.
According to One Gallery’s founder Mr Vince Chua, having a mobile presence allows the company to promote its web site to a wider audience, as people are able to access information on its products and services from anywhere, via their mobile phone.
The mobile foray was a fortuitous one for Mr Chua. After he reserved the domain name
www.onemasterpiece.com.sg
for his company in January, he received an email informing him of a free mobile web hosting offer. He took up on it and soon, his mobile web site was up and running at
m.onemasterpiece.com.sg
.
Launched on 3 January 2013, the free mobile hosting initiative is available on
Moobifly
Under this initiative, businesses registering a “.sg” or “.com.sg” domain name between now and 3 April 2013 are offered free mobile hosting for up to one year. The offer includes the use of Moobifly’s Content Management Solution to create and update up to four pages of content on the business’s mobile web site, and to host it as well. Premium features that will be available for three months include a web form and database for mailing lists, store listing, integration to Facebook, Twitter and Google Analytics accounts, and single-click functionality for calls and emails. Free setup services and office hour support is also available.
Another business which responded to the offer was Coins Shop, which deals with collectible antique coins. Its owner, Mr Laurence Lau, was registering the domain name
coins.sg
for his business when he was informed of the initiative and is now looking at how he can make best use of the mobile opportunity with his new mobile web site
m.antique.com.sg
. “We hope to find a way to gain more exposure with a mobile presence,” he said. “We just need to position it correctly.”
His son Mr Lebbeus Lau, who set up a company called Guitar Emerge to teach acoustic and electric guitar, was also keen on the mobile value proposition. The younger Mr Lau had been using video to demonstrate guitar techniques and sharing them online. Making those videos available via mobile phones would be a next logical step, with so many people watching videos on their mobile devices these days, he said.
Moobifly is a mobile content platform developed as part of a Call for Collaboration under the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore’s (IDA) Digital Concierge programme. Digital Concierge helps businesses, especially those in the tourism, hospitality and retail sectors, to become more competitive through the innovative use of mobile technologies.
Mr Tan Eng Pheng, Senior Director for Cluster Development Group at IDA, said such an initiative would enable more local businesses to reach their customers through the mobile channel. Businesses can use mobile web sites to showcase the latest promotions, conduct contests or deploy more sophisticated services such as mobile commerce, he added.
Welcoming the move to help businesses set up a mobile presence, SGNIC’s General Manager Mr Lim Choon Sai said SGNIC is committed to providing more value for .sg domain names and is actively working with suitable partners to deliver more benefits to .sg registrants.
