1-day Learning Game Design Workshop using the 3DHive Game Engine organised by IDA
3-5 June 2013
The power of digital games to engage and motivate learners is well documented, and the use of computer games in classroom teaching is on the rise across the world. However, educational titles on the market may not be exactly suited to schools' needs, while teachers generally do not possess the technical skills necessary to create them from scratch. The 3DHive tool addresses these issues by giving schools the tools they need to create accessible, robust virtual worlds designed to support teaching and learning in the classroom.
This workshop will introduce you to the learning theory behind game-based learning, and give you a hands-on experience using the 3DHive editor to edit and create your own learning game. Working with an example game designed to promote the acquisition of 21st century skills, you will be able to edit the appearance and functionality of the game to address your own teaching and curriculum requirements. Facilitated by experienced game designers and researchers, the practical session features a discussion of common teaching challenges to consider when using games in the classroom The session includes a free game-based learning lesson plan template.
