Showcasing eGov solutions

Posted date: 10 July 2009

A major component of the inaugural iGov Global Exchange was the iGov Exhibition. Held concurrently with the Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX) from 15-19 June, the Exhibition presented a wide array of e-Government solutions covering the deployment of infocomm in strategic areas of national development such as education, healthcare, judiciary, security, urban development, and the development of business and citizen e-services.

As part of iGov Global Exchange, organised by the Ministry of Finance and the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, the iGov Exhibition provided an open platform for governments and industry players around the world to demonstrate their achievements and innovations in e-Government, and facilitated mutual learning and sharing.

The exhibition saw participation from 29 multi-national and local infocomm companies.  There were 74 e-Government solutions and applications showcased.  A total of 26,730 international visitors visited the iGov Exhibition.  The top four countries of foreign visitors were Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand. Visitors also gained insights to the experience of infocomm companies in developing their e-Government solutions, through specially organised industry talks.

One of the solutions displayed at iGov Global Exchange was the HazMat Incident Management System (HIMS) developed and implemented by ST Electronics for the Singapore Civil Defence Force. HIMS facilitates incident monitoring and communications among personnel and fixed sites, mobile command posts, commanding officers at the incident site and the first onsite responders. The system receives data from a variety of sensors, and integrates it with a Plume Modelling software to generate plume dispersion models on Geographical Information System maps.

The Center on Education and Work, University of Wisconsin, was one of the exhibitors at the iGov Global Exchange.

Other e-Government solutions and info-security products exhibited by ST Electronics included a Wireless Sensor Network, its GENiiE VSee voice, video and visual software that allows instant secured collaboration across diverse geographical locations, an Automated Title Registration System, and its DigiSAFE DCM300 hardware-based full disk encryption device.

Another Singapore-based vendor which was out in force at the iGov Exhibition was NCS. One of the solutions at its booth was the Forensic Integrated Operations Network Applications (FIONA), an initiative by the Health Sciences Authority to streamline its administrative processes and workflow associated with forensic medical services such as death investigation, autopsy, scene investigation, clinical histopathology laboratory service and forensic medical consultancy.

Other projects included the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority’s BizFile, Central Narcotics Bureau’s Permit Administration and Control System, and the Singapore Police Force’s Electronic Police Centre.

“This exhibition is an important milestone,” said Mr James Ng, Senior Director of Marketing and Communications at NCS. “By working side by side with our clients, we can showcase the mass impact and effectiveness of our solutions in touching the lives of businesses and citizens alike; as well as our capabilities to export these solutions overseas.”

Also giving the event the thumbs up was Dr Foong Wai Keong, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ecquaria Technologies. “Through the iGov Global Exchange event, Ecquaria is pleased to share its leading integrated government concepts and implementation experiences with overseas governments and our partners,” he said.

One of the solutions featured by Ecquaria Technologies, a Singapore-based software infrastructure solutions provider, was the Online Business Licensing Service (OBLS), a past winner of the United Nations Public Service Award. OBLS offers an integrated single form application for multiple licences from over 30 different government agencies in Singapore.
