NIA: The search is on!

Posted date: 17 March 2010

Nominations are now open for the National Infocomm Awards (NIA) 2010, the highest accolade for the infocomm industry in Singapore. The biennial NIA, which is back for its fifth run, is jointly organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) and Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF).

The NIA rewards excellence in infocomm innovation, which is crucial in driving business growth. This is especially so as businesses gear up to seize the next phase of growth in recovering global economies.

“Infocomm innovation is a key part of our progress towards an innovation-driven economy. We have seen many businesses being transformed through the use of infocomm and it has not just increased their productivity but also enabled them to create many useful services and solutions to differentiate themselves, in the local as well as global marketplace. The Awards give recognition to those who have excelled through infocomm innovation,” said IDA’s Chief Executive Officer, RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay.

Past winners of the Most Innovative Use of Infocomm Technology (Private Sector) category can testify to this. For example, YCH Group, a home-grown logistics and supply chain company and winner of the Award in 2008, has seen a substantial increase in productivity from the development and implementation of Southeast Asia’s first RFID-enabled High Performance Supply Chain Nerve Centre for the industry.

“The generation of new ideas and knowledge can contribute towards more efficient and effective ways of achieving organisational excellence. It is therefore important for us to recognise and to celebrate the spirit of innovation in the infocomm industry with the NIA, the industry’s prestigious accolade,” said SiTF Chairman, Ms Tan Yen Yen.

The Award categories are:

A) Most Innovative Use of Infocomm Technology

  • Public Sector
  • Private Sector (General)
  • Private Sector (SMEs)

business growth.

These sub-categories recognise the innovative use of infocomm technology among public and private organisations in Singapore. The Award is given to companies who have effectively deployed innovative infocomm technology, and have reaped significant improvements in productivity and overall competitiveness as a result.

B) Most Innovative Infocomm Product/Service

This category recognises Singapore-registered organisations that are involved in the development or provision of innovative infocomm products or services. The products or services should preferably have attained some form of regional or international market presence.

Over the years, the NIA has helped establish a brand name for Singapore’s infocomm enterprises and inspired industry players to pursue the world-class benchmarks set by the winners.

It has also served as a springboard for many industry players looking to extend their markets beyond Singapore. Many past NIA winners like muvee, e-Cop, BuzzCity, Activate Interactive, and Advanced Network Laboratories have become key players in their niche domains and are making their marks in the global marketplace.

Interested parties can submit their entries at www.nia.sg , from now till 2 June 2010. Winners will be honoured at a gala dinner to be held in October 2010.
