The Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) have renewed their collaboration and technical cooperation on telecommunication regulatory areas.

On 15 September 2011, Haji Yahkup bin Haji Menudin, Chief Executive of AITI and Mr Leong Keng Thai, Director General (Telecoms and Post) and Deputy Chief Executive of IDA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Project Addendum (PA) to further leverage on the two organisations’ existing cooperation framework and cover new areas on Corporate Services and Human Resource Development, Postal Services, Domain Name Registration and an Industrial Internship Programme for fresh graduates and students undertaking ICT-related diploma courses.

“AITI and IDA have fostered a close working relationship over the years and I am delighted that we continue to strengthen this bond with the MOU signing today,” said Haji Yahkup. “I look forward to more exchanges of ideas, lessons learnt and experience sharing with IDA as we tackle the fast changing ICT landscape in our respective countries.”

AITI and IDA first established a working alliance with the signing of an MOU in October 2007. As part of the four-year collaboration, both telecoms regulators have had bilateral exchanges, training, consultancy and secondment of experts to assist in eGovernment and telecoms regulatory projects.

Key achievements under the existing MOU include the review of Brunei Darussalam’s eGovernment Strategies and Roadmap, which was endorsed at the country’s E-Government Leadership Forum (EGLF) in 2009. Brunei also completed its Government Enterprise Architecture Phase 1 and the design of the One Government Network in January 2011.

In the area of developing ICT manpower and expertise, IDA conducted a Telecoms Regulatory training and workshop for AITI officers in May 2010, and seconded an IDA officer to assist AITI in telecoms regulation, ICT industry development and international relations development.
