IDA’s Chief Technology Officer Mr Leong Mun Yuen will be discussing the vision, trends and future developments of the technology landscape.

The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) is charting Singapore’s infocomm technology roadmap for the future, and it is inviting the ICT and business community to be part of the process.

At the Infocomm Technology Roadmap (ITR) Symposium which takes place at The Sands Expo and Convention Centre on 17 August 2012, IDA’s Chief Technology Officer Mr Leong Mun Yuen will be discussing the vision, trends and future developments of the technology landscape and how Singapore’s technological direction can be aligned with these developments.

In line with the theme of the symposium “Co-Creating the Future”, IDA will also be opening up the ITR for consultation and feedback from the audience. Some of the topics covered in the roadmap include cloud computing, big data, cyber security, future communication technologies, the Internet of Things, social media, new digital economies and the next generation of immersive user interfaces.

At the symposium, a distinguished line-up of speakers will be weighing in with their insights into these key trends. Setting the stage for the day’s discussions will be Mr Cort Isernhagen, Vice President, IDC Insights – International, who will be sharing his thoughts on The Next Paradigm of ICT Evolution. Mr Isernhagen will talk about how economic, social and political trends are becoming increasingly inter-connected and possibly even converging, and the impact this could have on ICT adoption.

Data mining pioneer and renowned political scientist Dr Norman Nie will be presenting his views on market trends and drivers in big data and analytics technology and cloud computing and the transformative impact that these are having on private and public sector organisations. Dr Nie was one of the co-inventors of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), which went on to become one of the most widely-used tools for statistical analysis in the social sciences. He is currently Senior Advisor of Products and Strategy of Revolutionary Analytics and is also Research Professor of Political Science at Stanford University.

Well-known futurist Mr Peter Cochrane will be presenting on the Internet-of-Things and Sustainability.

Another well-known speaker at the symposium is Dr Peter Cochrane of Cochrane Associates. The futurist, entrepreneur, and business and engineering advisor to international industries and governments will be presenting on the Internet of Things and Sustainability. As the former Chief Technology Officer at British Telecom, Dr Cochrane led a 1,000-strong team in studies spanning optical fibre, fixed and mobile networks. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1999 for his contributions to international communications.

Taking on the topic The New Digital Economy, Mr Bo Parker, Managing Director, Centre of Technology & Innovation, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, will discuss how the evolution of the digital economy will impact commerce, financial systems, social interactions and other aspects of our lives. He will also discuss the convergence of the physical and digital worlds and how user interface technologies such as augmented reality and 3D visualisation are shaping the way the two worlds interact.

The afternoon programme of the ITR symposium will comprise three parallel tracks, each of which will delve deeper into the various findings and proposals of the roadmap. The first track, Redefining Your Operating Environment, will focus on cloud computing, big data and cyber security. The second, Towards a Smarter and Greener World, will focus on the Internet of Things, sustainability and communications of the future. The third track, The New Digital Economy, will discuss social media, the new digital economy and next-generation user interfaces.

The afternoon sessions are also where delegates at the symposium will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and provide feedback on the ITR. Inputs garnered at the symposium will help IDA fine-tune the ITR which will, in turn, set the stage for the development of Singapore’s next national infocomm masterplan.
